I finally decided how to make the connection for the fuel pressure gauge.
Adrian at Fensport suggested that I get hold of a spare fuel filter banjo bolt,
drill it and tap it to take the thread of the fuel pressure sensor.
There's not a lot of room for error as the shank of the banjo bolt is not much
bigger than the thread I wanted it to take. I had a go myself but made a
right mess of it trying to drill an accurate hole with a cordless drill just
doesn't work. Another member of the
Toyota
Owners Club who lives fairly close to me had
mentioned at one of our meets that he was an engineer so I asked if it was
something he could do for me. He took it away and returned it a couple of
days later - a proper job - thanks to Darren for his work on
this. I took out the original banjo bolt and replaced it with the tapped
one (already had the sensor fitted) - put new a new washer each side of the
banjo and tightened it up. Started the engine and checked for leeks - none
thank goodness for that.
With the engine cold and the ignition on but engine not started I'm getting 42psi. With the engine idling I'm getting 34psi (boost gauge showing -9psi). At full boost (13psi) the SPA gauge shows 55psi - all as I had expected.
