The MOT test showed up a problem with the rear hubs – both of them are noisy and I was given an advisory to get them looked at soon.
I still had the complete rear drum brake setup which was removed when I had the disk brake upgrade. I called Kevin in Droitwich, he thought that the drum hubs were the same as the disk hubs and suggested that it would be worth trying a swap. He also gave me the part numbers for new hubs and had priced them up at about £70 each side + VAT. I took the car and the old drum setup to my son who removed the noisy ones and with a judicious bit of persuasion was able to get the drum hubs fitted. That was one problem fixed but when he removed the rear callipers he discovered that the rubber boots covering the calliper sliders had perished and split – time for a calliper slider kit. The car will be off the road for most of the winter so I’ll get my son to fit them when he gives the Corolla it’s annual service next spring.
